chatsworth House Derbyshire -Travel England

In every county (shire) throughout England one finds stately old manors and mansions. One of the best is the Chatsworth House, located on the east bank of the River Derwent in Derbyshire. It has been named favorite country home of the year several times and is renowned for the gardens and incredible collections of artwork in the 100 rooms open for visitors. It has been the home of the Cavendish family since 1549 and remains the residence of the current Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.

The main house was built as a Tudor mansion but has undergone many renovations over time. However It still has medieval charm which has been featured in several recent movies. The Duchess was partially filmed here and is the story of Georgiana Spencer, Duchess of Devonshire who wed the Duke of Devonshire in 1774. Her portrait by Gainsborough is one of the many priceless paintings on display for visitors to enjoy.
